Moose & Winter Tick Interactions
The moose population in eastern Canada is at the southern range of its native habitat and is increasingly subject to the impacts of climate change due to increasing abundance of winter ticks, which have a severe negative impact on moose body condition. A multi-year study was conducted to assess moose body condition, habitat structure and environmental factors on the intensity of winter tick infestation, and investgated if forestry management practices can help mitigate winter tick densities and/or moose-tick encounters.
