A tree in our managed forests takes 40 to 80 years to grow. The seedlings we plant today must be resilient to the climate of tomorrow—not just the conditions we see now. 

We're already experiencing shorter winters, new pests, shifts in precipitation. That brings risks, but it also brings opportunity: to remove more carbon through forest growth and store it long-term in products people use, with seedlings tested to be more adaptable to a changing environment.

Better Than Carbon Neutral 

Our Forest Supply Chain takes more carbon out of the air than it puts back in, even with manufacturing and distributing forest products.  Growing forests and long-lived products like lumber remove carbon and lock it away for decades​.  

That's better than carbon neutral — verified independently to internationally recognized standards since 2020​. Not many can say that. It's what happens when you responsibly manage millions of acres, growing more wood than you harvest, year after year.

Renewable Energy from the Forest 

BRIGHTON MOUNTAIN WIND FARM 

Construction started in 2025 near Juniper, New Brunswick. By 2027, 34 wind turbines will generate 200MW of renewable electricity​— enough to power around 57,000 homes.  

The project sits on private forest land we've managed for generations. It's another way the forest works — not just growing trees, but generating clean energy and helping decarbonize our own operations and the province’s electrical grid.

Project NextGen: Irving Pulp & Paper

Irving Pulp & Paper’s generational modernization project in Saint John includes a new recovery boiler that will generate 140 megawatts of renewable electricity - enough to power the mill and supply surplus energy back to the New Brunswick electricity grid. The project will eliminate the need for consumption of heavy oils at the mill.
