Parkindale Seed Orchard

Parkindale Seed Orchard

Home-Grown Seeds

Established 1980

This is where it all begins— healthy forests start with superior local seeds.

Located in Southern New Brunswick, our Parkindale Seed Orchard is where we produce millions of high-quality seeds for our tree nurseries.

The parent trees at the orchard are selected from the best of our local forests - those that outgrew others or were naturally more resistant to pests.

Quick Facts:

  • 322 acres in size
  • 21,222 trees in the orchard
  • 6 species: white spruce, red spruce, black spruce, norway spruce, white pine and Jack pine
  • Seed cones are all collected by hand
  • Each cone has 10-40 seeds in it
  • Aerial lifts, up to 85 feet tall, are used to reach the treetops
  • Record collection: over 200 million seeds in one year (that’s from hand-picking over 8 million cones).

Picking cones is only part of the work. The team is also busy caring for each individual tree—monitoring it's health, watering it, and conducting research to make sure every tree produces the strongest possible seed.
